To kick off the British summer, which let’s be honest has JUST started, don’t miss the always fabulous Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair, this time in Hastings for the first time ever. Taking place on 16 July, the event, as always, will feature a number of big name artists including John Cooper Clarke, Gavin Turk, Marcus Harvey, Sir Peter Blake and Sir Quentin Blake. All of these artists will be at the event selling their prized editions at a friendly price.
Other artists participating include: Keith Coventry, Martin Creed, HelenA Pritchard, Rachel Howard, Tracey Emin, and – for the first time – Mr Bingo.

Cooper Park, the legendary punk rock poet, has created exclusively for the fair a silkscreen print with the lyrics of his poem, Chicken Town. This year’s theme is the human hand, so this piece also features the outline of the artist’s own hand.

Sir Peter Blake has made a new print based on an existing collage work of his called Hastings Memories, which is made up of objects he found lying around the fishing boats along the promenade.

Harvey, on the other hand, will be blessing us with two works, a sandcastle with a Union Jack flag made from ceramic stone created especially for the fair, and two silkscreen prints, one of ‘Moors Murderer’ Myra Hindley, the other of Margaret Thatcher. (The Maggie is part of my fiance’s collection and I can’t reccommend it enough!)

It is sure to be an entertaining and fruitful art buying day for the whole family replete with other entertainment options as well, so let’s pray for sun and make way to Hastings!
