Taking Up Space, the debut solo exhibition by the emerging British artist EmilyMulenga at Firstsite, Colchester, features a series of Mulenga’s video works as well animated GIFS and personalised emojis – or in the artist’s terms – MulengaMojis.
Mulenga uses her own image within her work to assert ownership over the way it is viewed online. Through her works, Mulenga positions her filmed self or animated avatar in vivid virtual environments. The title of the exhibition, Taking Up Space, refers to the way in which the physical or digital body can be a productive and positive site of artistic investigation.
For those who didn’t know, our team has decided to crowdfund to raise £100,000 to enable us to continue to grow, bring more fantastic artists on board and make the app even better. The fundraising is through HMRC’s incredibly generous SEIS scheme, more on that here.
On Monday 6th July we were invited to attend the London FastTrack event hosted by premiere global tech accelerator, Startup Bootcamp. From 9:30AM-12:30PM, we not only pitched ArtAttack to a group of experienced mentors, but got to listen to other pitches as well, contribute our feedback, and receive that of others. There is nothing quite like the sharing of ideas and this inspirational morning spent in East London was a stellar reminder of that.
After the event, our whole team felt regenerated and ready to blast back into our startup grind with a newfound excitement for what lay ahead as well as some great tips from the mentors.
In the spirit of that excitement, we would like to present you with a few screens from our upcoming app, designed by the talented Dejan Markovic!
